We want results! It's In Our Power is an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower our town's carbon footprint. Help us show the world that we can do it because It's In Our Power. Take the pledge and follow these tips to reduce your business's environmental impact and become a leader:
- Increase Energy Efficiency: The NJ Direct Install Program is designed to cut your facility's energy costs by replacing lighting, HVAC, and other outdated operational equipment with energy efficiency alternatives. The program pays 70% of retrofit costs at up to $50,000 per project. To learn more you can click HERE. Click HERE for a FREE energy assessment to see if your building qualifies for the Direct Install Program in order to make improvements that will lower your utility bills, increase the value of your property, and help fight climate change. Or for information, contact Greg Shields or Alan Rhode with Tri-State Light & Energy, Inc. at 610-789-1900, or email . Remember, financing programs are available through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. For congregations that lease their facilities, we are asking you to use a sample template letter HERE to send to your landlord. You may even be able to establish a modification to your lease agreement that stipulates that you will split the energy cost savings with the landlord!
- Switch To Clean Power Provider: This is one of the simplest and hassle-free actions you can take to help save energy and reduce your utility bill. When switching energy suppliers, you're only changing the company that supplies your energy. The distribution will still be handled by PSE&G. However, since a large portion of your utility bill comes from the generation of energy, switching suppliers could potentially save you lots of money off your bill! For the "It's In Our Power Highland Park" campaign we are asking you purchase clean power from a provider that gets at least 20% of its energy from a renewable source. For a listing of alternative energy providers in the PSE&G service area, click HERE.
- Educate Your Members: Having taken action to reduce your carbon footprint, you will be ideally situated to share your experiences with your members. We are asking congregations to display flyers, pledge cards, and posters in your house of worship and to either hold an information session or incorporate information into services. Click HERE for a list of talking points you may wish to touch on.
- Adopt Energy Saving Policies: Consider adopting energy-saving policies that require lights, computers, copiers, and printers to be turned off when not in use. Enforce double sided printing and copying as well as thermostat adjustments. Click HERE for a sample memo to hand out to staff!
